These are specifically designed for aspiring clinical academics who have either,
These are specifically designed for aspiring clinical academics who have either,
i) submitted a competitive NIHR ICA Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship or similar doctoral fellowship application, which has not been successful;

ii) have a nearly completed application for a clinical doctoral fellowship, which has not yet been submitted and requires further refinement

Applicants who held a previous HEE pre-doctoral bridging award are eligible to apply.

Applicants must belong to one of the ICA eligible professions (non-medical health and care professionals) be employed in the East of England NHS region and plan to apply for clinical doctoral fellowship in the next 12 months.

What does the shortened Pre-Doctoral Bridging award offer?
What does the shortened Pre-Doctoral Bridging award offer?
A payment of £5000 will be made to the successful candidate’s employer to enable study days for a period of up to 6 months. During this time applicants can use their study time to meet with supervisors and work on a (re-) submission of a doctoral fellowship application to NIHR. The number of study days and over what period of time should be agreed with their employer (line manager) in advance and should be in line with the applicant’s salary costs to justify the use of the full grant of £5000.

The applicant’s academic supervisors should be supportive of this application, be available during the period of the award and willing to provide supervision in order to enable a timely and competitive (re-) submission.
