Nurses, midwives and allied health professionals

The information here is aimed at all those health and social care professions eligible for the NIHR/HEE Integrated Academic Pathway. This includes, nurses, midwives,  AHPs, practitioner psychologists, healthcare scientists, pharmacists, non-medical Public Health specialty trainees and consultants and others (excludes doctors and dentists).

There are many opportunities for nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, practitioner psychologists, pharmacists and others to develop careers that combine clinical research and leadership with continued clinical practice and professional development. The Health Education England (HEE) and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Integrated Clinical Academic Programme (ICA) provides a range of personal research awards for registered health and social care professionals.  To apply you must belong to an ICA eligible profession.

NIHR/HEE funded ICA Fellowships (PCAF, DCAF, ACAF)

is a national scheme offering five levels of awards starting at Masters-level and progressing to post-doctoral senior level. Each fellowship requires the joint support of a clinical and academic host organisation.

supports aspiring clinical academics to build on their previous academic training and develop proposals for a pre-Masters, pre-doctoral or post-doctoral fellowship and is administered regionally.

A similar scheme is available for doctors and dentists under the Integrated Academic Training  (IAT) Programme.
